On October 9-10 you will have the opportunity to experience Swedish music as it was long before Abba and Basshunter and as it still is. Linköping Folk Music Festival will take place at Cupolen, Folkets Park, Majgatan 4, right across the street from Gamla Linköping (The Old Town), and lots of bands will be playing more or less traditional music.
Bands like MP3, Sågskära, and Timber play and sing traditional Swedish folk music with their own personal touch. Bröderna Tupp does it the balkan way and Crooked Still the American way. This year we have visitors from our fellow Nordic countries. From Norway we welcome Sver and Triumvir.
Those, and many others, will give their best during the festival. There will also be a forum for folk dance on stage with several different acts performing. The seventh Studentspelmanslags-VM – world championship for student amateur groups playing traditional music – will also take place during the festival.
Try it yourself!
There will be beginners' workshops in Balkan, menuettes and Scandinavian dancing. The dance taught at the Scandinavian workshop is the polska, which has many variants in Scandinavia and is danced to some of the Swedish folk music.
The restaurant will of course be open, and so will the pub, so you can have something to eat and drink while you enjoy the music.
